Manage Your Day-To-Day: Build your Routine, Find your Focus and Sharpen your Creative Mind- Chapter Three -Taming Your Tools - Reclaiming Our Self Respect

Chapter Three-  Taming Your Tools A famous quote once said; "Creative isn't the  way i think it's the way i like to  live." -Paul Sandip Reclaiming Our Self Respect We have welcomed technology fully into lives - we don't questions it.  We don't see phone calls as intrusive into our personal time. Parks and gym are just more places to 'check in.' Self respect and etiquette are being pushed out of our lives. A break / pause makes lives better and lays groundwork for creativity. We seem to feel that technology makes our lives better their are parts of live that don't need to be made better by technology "A healthy relationship with your devices is all about taking an ownership of your time and making an investment your life." Go for a walk, take the baby in a pram, go on a date etc without your mobile. Not everyone will be a good example - it is up to you where you direct your attention. If it is important they will ca...

Manage Your Day-To-Day: Build your Routine, Find your Focus and Sharpen your Creative Mind- Chapter Three -Taming Your Tools - Reconsidering Constant Connectivity

Chapter Three-  Taming Your Tools A famous quote once said; "Our intention is to  affirm this life, not to bring order out of chaos, nor to suggest improvements in creation... but simply to wake up  to the very life we're living." -John Cage Reconsidering Constant Connectivity Everything is done because we want to connect eg; couldn't see far enough so invented the telescope. We wanted to connect with everyone so created the internet. The internet is both "good and bad" "focused and distracted." The real problem isn't the technology but rather the need to learn when to turn it off. Having a regular habit of unplugging helps to reset your brain and your soul which is a necessity - one day is recommended. It makes you more connected with loved ones and makes you more grounded and creative. We need to be mindful of who we let into out minds. The internet is a positive and negative - there are great things about it put...

Manage Your Day-To-Day: Build your Routine, Find your Focus and Sharpen your Creative Mind- Chapter Three -Taming Your Tools - Using Social Media Mindfully

Chapter Three-  Taming Your Tools A famous quote once said; " You can do  anything but not everything." -David Allen Using Social Media Mindfully Social media fulfils most basic needs of belonging and self esteem. We receive a small rush of endorphins when we receive a new message. Social media also triggers thew reward centre of our brain making us want to relate our daily activities. While engaging in social media we are unable to give full attention to who or what is right there in front of us. We miss out on the details of our lives. Set boundaries - only access computer in certain time frame. Ask key questions if wish to get online outside of these hours. Key questions to ask self if drawn to social media:  Do i need to share this information now or will it be okay to share it later so that i can live it now.   Am i looking for validation, looking to fill my day. Am i avoiding something. Am i feeling lonely. Am i afraid of missi...

Manage Your Day-To-Day: Build your Routine, Find your Focus and Sharpen your Creative Mind- Chapter Three -Taming Your Tools - Making E-mails Matter

Chapter Three-  Taming Your Tools A famous quote once said; "The difference between successful people and very successful people is that very successful people say 'no' to almost everything." -Warren Buffett Making E-mails Matter It is estimated that 28% of the working week is spend reading, writing or responding to emails. to master your emails: Label and code emails, sort emails into easily define topics/ people, make important emails sit at top/ resurface, track emails and delete old emails, write shorter emails (5 sentences). My inbox is an extension of my brain - however our digital selves can cope with more input than our physical selves. Three important things to make the most of your inbox; know your complex goals / long term , connect the dots, lets things go. Put long term goals on post it note and stick to desk as a reminder. Give each message some consideration and find someone to share it with. Keep an eye on the long term goa...

Interview With a Media Practitioner

After emailing a range of different Media Practitioners i finally got a response from Niamh MacAuely from Purple Dot Media in Dungannon who very kindly responded and answered all my questions that i had for her. What work do you find really inspires the work you make? I am mostly inspired by TV adverts. If i see something interesting or an animations I've never seen before. I like to experiment and see if videos are easy to recreate in my own style. What do you think is the most important or favourite project that you have worked on and why was it important to you? My favourite project I have worked on was a series of animations for First Trust Bank. They gave me the flexibility to be as creative as i wanted, therefore i found the job more enjoyable. What traits do you think makes someone a good film maker/script writer/ web developer/ media artist etc. Creativity is key and being creative does not mean you can draw or paint etc. Accountants can be creative, an...

Manage Your Day-To-Day: Build your Routine, Find your Focus and Sharpen your Creative Mind- Chapter Two- Learning to Create Amid Chaos

Chapter Two-  Finding Focus in a Distracted World- Scheduling in Time for Creative Thinking A famous quote once said; "Creation is in part merely the business of forgoing the great and small distractions." -E.B White Learning to Create Amid Chaos There is no perfect time to be productive - waiting for the perfect time is almost always procrastination. Most creative people have jobs, commitments, family's etc so in order to be creative we must learn to be productive in the mist of chaos. Moving to somewhere without distractions is almost impossible - even if we could they will come with us. It is possible to combat negative distractions with good distractions. Setting a timer and racing the clock can be very good positive distraction. Ignoring negative distractions to focus on preferred activity takes mental agility and energy. Roy Baumeister discovered that self control is not genetic or fixed but is a skill that can be developed and improved with prac...

Manage Your Day-To-Day: Build your Routine, Find your Focus and Sharpen your Creative Mind- Chapter Two- Understanding Our Compulsions

Chapter Two-  Finding Focus in a Distracted World- Scheduling in Time for Creative Thinking A famous quote once said; "The most basic form of human stupidity is forgetting what we are trying to accomplish." -Friedrich Nietzsche Understanding Our Compulsions We have a tendency to complete tasks that don't require much thought but that can be done quickly giving us a sense of achievement. Checking emails, Facebook, YouTube frequently is exciting because on the odd occasion something interesting is there- in order to receive this one random exciting thing we are prepared to contentiously check these social media. If you put the following 3 things together they produce disaster :- world around us tempting us, listening to the world around us and poor ability to deal with temptation. Our most productive time is between 8am-11am so not opening emails during this time would increase productivity. 40% of bad decisions leads to death eg. obesity, smoking, ...

Ted Bundy Presentation for MED315

Ted Bundy Presentation for MED315 Here is the presentation that i done for MED315 for my interactive non-fiction project that i am going to create. I have put the notes that i used to present my presentation to my class under the presentation. Presentation ted bundy from Sorcha McVeigh Slide One The story that I am going to tell is the life of the American serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, burglar and necrophile   Theodore Robert Bundy or as some may know him as Ted Bundy who assaulted and murdered numerous young women and girls during the 1970’s and possibly earlier. Ted Bundy was born on November 24 th 1946 to Eleanor Louise Cowell.   Due to the fact that his mother became pregnant out of wedlock   she was made go to Elizabeth Lund Home for Unwed Mothers in Burlington, Vermont. Although his birth certificate assigned paternity to a salesman and Air Force Veteran named Lloyd Marshall there is speculation to believe that he is not the father ...

Wire frames-MED330

Image
Wire framing is a way to design a website service without having to do the code side of the work. A wire frame is usually used to lay out what content will go where on the website and also the functionality of the pages which takes into account the users needs and user journey. The idea of wire frames is to establish the basic structure of a page before visual design and content is added on to it. A few advantages of doing a wire frame is that it provides an early visual that can be used to review with the client. The user can also review it as an early feedback mechanism for prototype usability tests. Once a client has reviewed a wire frame with the designer and has approved it the designer has confidence that the client will like the final outcome of the product that they have made.

Manage Your Day-To-Day: Build your Routine, Find your Focus and Sharpen your Creative Mind- Chapter Two- Scheduling in Time for Creative Thinking and Banishing Multitasking from Our Repertoire

Chapter Two-  Finding Focus in a Distracted World- Scheduling in Time for Creative Thinking A famous quote once said; "It is not enough to be busy, (the ants are busy) we must ask: 'What are we busy about?'" -Henry David Thoreau Scheduling in Time for Creative Thinking and Banishing Multitasking from Our Repertoire  More information takes our attention. There are lots of temptations wanting our attention. We need to look at each day as an opportunity to keep our eye on the prize. Email technology is on the increase- some argue detrimentally; others argue they have benefit. Mark some scheduled time on your calendar- use this time to be creative to produce your best work. Do not let yourself become distracted- no internet, no phone and no emails. Start with scheduling out 1 hour of time then increase this by 15 minutes every two weeks. If you become distracted and give in to it then cancel the whole block and try later. Do not allow the brain to think t...

Manage Your Day-To-Day: Build your Routine, Find your Focus and Sharpen your Creative Mind- Chapter One- Key Take Away's GREAT WORK BEFORE EVERYTHING ELSE Do your most meaningful creative work at the beginning of your day, and leave “reactive work”—like responding to e-mail or other messages—for later. JUMP-START YOUR CREATIVITY Establish “associative triggers”—such as listening to the same music or arranging your desk in a certain way—that tell your mind it’s time to get down to work. FEEL THE FREQUENCY Commit to working on your project at consistent intervals—ideally every day—to build creative muscle and momentum over time. PULSE AND PAUSE Move rhythmically between spending and renewing your energy by working in ninety-minute bursts and then taking a break. GET LONELY  Make a point of spending some time alone each day. It’s a way to observe unproductive habits and thought processes, and to calm your mind. DON’T WAIT FOR MOODS Show up, whether you feel inspired ...
