Manage Your Day-To-Day: Build your Routine, Find your Focus and Sharpen your Creative Mind- Chapter One- Making Room for Solitude

Chapter one- Building a rock-solid routine- How to give structure, rhythm and purpose to your daily work. A famous quote once said; " Creativity is contagious  pass it on" -Albert Einstein Making Room for Solitude If we make time (20 to 30 minutes) for solitude and reflection we will be able to fins calm and hear our own creative voice. Find time each day (1/2 hour to a hour) to have some quite time to reflect- early mornings before others are up or go to work early. If this is not possible then go to coffee shop or parks etc. Preferably somewhere without internet or other distractions. Practice solitude for a few minutes and gradually build it up and you will become comfortable with it. Stay upright, focus on nothing in particular except breathing. If thoughts come up, acknowledge but don't engage. Bring self back to breathing. Meditating and spending time in solitude will make you increasingly able to centre your mind and pull your thoughts back to the...

The equivalent of making continuous withdrawals from our bank account without ever makiing a deposit, At some point you go bankrupt. Sleep is more important than food! Manage Your Day-To-Day: Build your Routine, Find your Focus and Sharpen your Creative Mind- Chapter One- Honing Your Creative Practice

Chapter one- Building a rock-solid routine- How to give structure, rhythm and purpose to your daily work. A famous quote once said; "You can't TRY  to do things, you must simply  DO them." -Ray Bradbury Honing Your Creative Practice Regularly and reliably do the work in a habitual way. Work in 'your place', work clothes- this professionalizes your work. Self praise of your work is difficult as we tend to feel we are inadequate. Sometimes we work hard in the short term but still fail to achieve our big-picture goals. "These people sabotage themselves because the alternative is to put themselves into the world as someone who knows what they are doing. They are afraid that if they do that, they will be seen as a fraud. It’s incredibly difficult to stand up at a board meeting or a conference or just in front of your peers and say, “I know how to do this. Here is my work. It took me a year. It’s great.”  This is hard to do for two r...

Manage Your Day-To-Day: Build your Routine, Find your Focus and Sharpen your Creative Mind- Chapter One- Harnessing the Power of Frequency

Chapter one- Building a rock-solid routine- How to give structure, rhythm and purpose to your daily work. A famous quote once said; "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." -Aristotle Harnessing the Power of Frequency. We tend to overestimate what can be done in a short time. Working frequently means you do not have to restart your work, therefore everything is fresh and its easy to pick up where you left off. This also allows fresh ideas to flow and helps me to accomplish my goal. Working frequently allows me to be in a  playful unstressed mood. When you work regularly creativity strikes regularly. If you keep working frequently you will be able to work ore frequently- ten minute rule. Working daily brings greater accomplishments. The anxiety of procrastination makes people less likely to work in the future. If you do a little bit each day you will get a lot done over a longer period. The more widely spaced your wor...

Manage Your Day-To-Day: Build your Routine, Find your Focus and Sharpen your Creative Mind- Chapter One- Laying the Groundwork for and Effective Routine

Chapter one- Building a rock-solid routine- How to give structure, rhythm and purpose to your daily work. A famous quote once said was; "I don't wait for moods.  You accomplish nothing if you do that. Your mind must know it has got to get down to work." - Pearl S. Buck Laying the Groundwork for and Effective Routine. Turning up is the most important factor for success and accomplishment. Routines help us to set expectations, divide our time, keep our minds in creative flow and letting us work according to our energy levels. Do not wait for inspiration- create an environment which allows it to happen. Building a routine is about perseverance and continuing. If you want to create something useful you must decide between the must haves and the wants. You must also decide whats important to you and not let others or work work commitments get in the way. There is a temptation to try to clear everything else before beginning the piece of work in hand. Doin...

To find a place to do placement in I researched a range of different places in Northern Ireland who I then went on an emailed them to enquire about getting a two week placement with. I then found out that a lot of companies don't take students for placement or else don't reply to your email asking if they do. A few of the companies that i emailed included: Video Creations Ireland Sub-Culture Productions Orchard Media Productions BNL Productions Ka-Boom Wee Bun Films  to name a few. Once one of the companies finally responded to me they asked if i could show them my work and also if i could send them a CV that I had. Therefore I went and created a creative CV and posted all my project I had made onto vimeo, I also created a portfolio site using Behance to display my photography and also print work that I had made. Below is the email that I sent out to many different Media companies in Northern Ireland, I have also included the link to my vimeo where all my videos th...
